The Big Apple

Since we were going to drive from Rochester to Boston, it makes sense to just pop over to NYC for a couple of days, right?  Maybe not exactly on the way, but close enough to warrant a stop since the kids have never been there.  NYC in two days is impossible, but we did our best. Thanks to longtime friends, Eric and Jenni, for hosting us all and being our home base.

First stop:  Statue of Liberty.  So worth the ferry ride to see the Manhattan skyline (and very tall Freedom Tower).

Rochester traditions and cousin time

Our first few days in Rochester are a bit of a blur…rounding up bikes and gear for everyone for a Friday trek to Geneva for the Musselman triathlon took up a bunch of time.  But it was worth it. Once again, it was a great time and good way to honor Mike.

Saturday was the sprint distance race that Chuck, Matt, my cousin Terry, and I did. It’s so great to hear all the cheers for Team Coyle out on the course and to have complete strangers come up to us and share stories and memories of Mike.

The girls were great and ran through the finish with all of us.

By far, the hardest part of the race was riding by Mike’s ‘ghost bike’.

The next day we held the Second Annual Softball Game for Mike.  A great way to spend a day with family and a couple of Mike’s really close friends.

Seabreeze with the cousins.  Another Rochester tradition is to spend the day at Seabreeze.  So fun that even Marshall and Mikey can go on some of the rides with the big kids. We used to literally spend the ‘day’, but now it seems like kids are big enough to make it all the way to night.

So much cousin love and fun hanging at Grandma and Papa John’s pool, playing at Aunt Jane’s cottage, sleepovers, and secret cousin language.
