Mt. Huron with the Holcombs

The Holcomb crew + 1 came up and met us in Leadville (Thanks, Ellie, for helping out all weekend).  The kids quickly took off and we barely saw them all weekend (and we somehow got our garage cleaned out of the deal).  Tom had the brilliant idea of taking all of the kids to hike a 14er (one of the Colorado high peaks over 14,000 feet/almost 4,300 meters) on their last day.  In no reality did I think that this was going to end well.  I am so happy to have been wrong.  We chose Mt. Huron for it’s relatively shorter amount of elevation gain (3,700 feet) and proximity to Leadville.  This hike was no joke and we were keeping our fingers crossed for a perfect Colorado day because we did not travel from Tanzania with any of our all weather gear.  We were so lucky.

The hike up took us almost 3 hours…well, I should say it took me almost three hours.  I’m pretty sure Ruth and Anderson had us beat by awhile.  It was a stunning morning/afternoon and this peak was in the middle of several high peaks.  Gorgeous.

Gorgeous start

Can you spot Ruth and Anderson way up ahead?

I love that all of us, even the kids, picked up like it hadn’t been two years since we’ve seen each other.  Those are the best type of friends.
