After spending just over two weeks in Colorado we moved on to Rochester where we spent the week hanging out with cousins (both new and old), swimming in Grandma and Papa John’s pool to try and get relief from the heat, and playing with Grandpa Chuck in the sprinkler. We also had a day of real adventure at Seabreeze Amusement Park. This is where I spent my high school and college summers working (Aunt Kristin did, too), so it was fun to go back with the kids. The kids loved the water slides and roller coaster, but I think a favorite for all was the water flume ride – they even convinced Uncle Mike to join us to ride it a second time. Unfortunately daddy had to work that day and missed out on all the fun.
Overall the kids adapted well to being back in the US. Frozen waffles, Frosted Mini Wheats, and blueberries quickly became a staple, but you could see the Africa in them creep out every once in a while: while brushing teeth at any new place or asking for a glass of water “Is this drinking water?”; at any new lake, pond, etc “Are there crocs in there?”; and “These bananas aren’t as good as the ones we have at home”.
Rochester:
And, of course, it wouldn’t be a complete trip to Rochester without a garbage plate.
After Rochester we headed with Uncle Mike, Aunt Kristin, Georgia, and Fiona up to Beaver Pond in the Adirondacks. We spent the weekend fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and swimming (putting the girls summer camp skills to the test). I think the girls caught a significant portion of the fish in that pond (15 catches?). Nice job!
Special thanks to Tim and Debbie for letting us use their cabin. What a great way to end our NY time.
Ohhh A REAL garbage plate. I will have to show Freddy.
