Camping at Lake Eyasi

Third time’s a charm.  I finally got out hunting with the Hadza, but I’ll save the details of that for another post.  We had a great time camping with Mirjam, Andrew, Simone, and Theo.  Very relaxing time with normal camping stuff…bonfires, too many marshmallows, swimming, bugs, and fishing, but we also had to contend with vervet monkeys that seemed to think it was their campground, too.  There were also lots of bushbabies jumping overhead – we joked that they were up too early (they are nocturnal, but the little ones were out while the sun was still up).  We joked that the mama bushbabies were saying “Just stay in bed for a little bit longer, can’t you see that the sun is still out?".  We also had a gorgeous full moon that was so bright at one point I was about to yell at Matt in the middle of the night for shining his light in my eyes.

Just outside of Arusha (~5 minutes from our house) it is still so dry, but only about 30 minutes later we got to points where the road was literally washed away due to flash floods.  It was so green and gorgeous for the rest of the drive.

We stopped in the town of Karatu to grab a coke and wait for Mirjam and Andrew who were a few minutes behind us.  Tierney and Anderson made themselves comfortable in a little duka (roadside store) that had a tv playing Tanzanian music and dancing.

Best name for a cracker:  Salticrax

Fun around our gorgeous campsite.

Roadside giraffe we saw on the way home (there were zebra and gazelle, too).

And guess who lost another tooth?  It must be more exciting to lose a tooth on safari (accidentally knocked out by her brother).
